- 1. Werratal is a valley around the Werra river in Hessen (near Frankfurt).
- 2. Kamener Kreuz is a traffic interchange near the city of Kamen which is in Nordrhein-Westfalen.
- 3. HR3 (or hr3) is a German radio station in Hessen that plays pop music. I think that at the time of this song it was the only German station that played music all night long.
- 4. Frankenhöhe (the Franconian heights) are hills in Southern Germany (including Bavaria).
- 5. Hans-Albers-Platz is a square in Hamburg near the Reeperbahn. Hans Albers was one of the most popular German actors of all time. He was also a singer.
- 6. Sorgenbrecher is a pub in St. Pauli (near the Reeperbahn).
- 7. Ex 'n' Pop was a hip Berlin club. Apparently Nick Cave was a regular there in the 80s.
- 8. Monheim is a city in Nordrhein-Westfalen (Western Germany).
- 9. Annuss Fleisch was a meat company located in Unna (Nordrhein-Westfalen) which is now known as Frischezentrum Unna.
- 10. The Hanseatic League was a merchant guild organisation. It is important in the history of Hamburg, as being one of the main ports in Hansa helped the city to become rich and powerful.
