Autumn Song
The way home was very longand I've met no one
Now my evenings are chilly and late
Come and console me for a bit
because I'm quite tired
and I'm suddenly so terribly lonesome
I've never noticed before
that the darkness was so vast
I walk and think of all the things one should
There are so many things
I should have said and done
but only very few things I did
Hurry up, darling
Hurry up and love
Days are getting darker by the minute
Light our candles
It is almost night
Soon the blossoming summer will be over
I am searching for something
that we may have forgotten,
something that you could help me find
A summer goes by
It is always just as short
It is the dream about what one could have won
Maybe you'll come by some time
before dusk turns blue
Before the meadows are dry and empty
Maybe we will find each other
Maybe we will find
some way for everything to blossom
Hurry up, darling
Hurry up and love
Days are getting darker by the minute
Light our candles
It is almost night
Soon the blossoming summer will be over
Now a storm rages outside
and closes summer's doors
It is too late to wonder and search
Maybe I love less
than I used to before
But more than you'll ever know
Now we see all beacons
along autumn's long coast
and hear the lost waves wander
Only one thing is important,
the yearning of one's heart
and to get to be together
Hurry up, darling
Hurry up and love
Days are getting darker by the minute
Light our candles
It is almost night
Soon the blossoming summer will be over
