My Little Girl

I hugged you to my chest
and then I held you in my arms.
You were my little girl,
and to make you fall asleep
I also became a child,
I used to amuse you from over the bed.
 
And then, tired of playing,
you were asking me in a whisper:
”Can you tell me
that beautiful fairy tale
of the lost swallow,
that brought to its little ones to eat?'
 
And you listened to me very carefully,
interested in my fairy tales,
and I was improvising thousands of stories,
about mice and cinderellas.
 
And slowly, slowly you opened up
those eyes as big as the blue sea,
and I was dozing there, next to you.
You were my baby girl.
 
Walking next to you,
I realize bit by bit
that you are already a young lady.
I still can't believe
how this time has flown,
but to me you're always my little girl.
 
If you're late when you get home,
I find myself feeling bad.
don't make me worry.
The companions you frequent
yes, I know, they are cautious,
however the unexpected is ready to come.
 
And sixteen years have gone by now,
and I don't remember the fairy tales anymore.
Your interests have changed now,
soon you will have a boyfriend, I know.
